Deborah Geurtze, Etchings and Monotypes

Deborah Geurtze is an artist/printmaker whose intricate etchings and monotypes reflect her deep connection with nature, a force that directs both her life and her work. In describing her work, the artist notes, “Wilderness – its patterns and complexity – are a continual source of inspiration. My panoramas explore the ever changing natural world and give expression to themes of passage –from dark to light, along a country road, from man-made to overgrown, chaotic splendor.” These images celebrate wild and unsung places, timeless places, and respond to the mood and nobility of the environment they capture. An avid outdoorswoman, Geurtze has hiked most of the high peaks of the Adirondaks.

Of Hudson River Dutch ancestry, Geurtze was born in Albany, NY.  She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and at the State University of NY at Potsdam and has been proudly represented by the gallery since our opening in 1993.
